What is somatic coaching and how does it work?
‘Soma’ is the ancient Latin word for body - so somatic coaching is simply body coaching. We seek to discern the ‘story under the story’ ie. the story of what is happening in your body instead of the narrative of the events in your day. At BodyKindness we are not trauma specialists but focus on helping people learn to cope better with anxiety and other every day problems. It is a body based approach to emotional and physical issues resulting in the client being able to cope better with every day challenges, make better decisions, relate better as well as having physical health benefits eg better gut health.
All sessions whether in person or online, include some practice of somatic exercises. These exercises are not to work your muscles or improve your fitness, but they will be scientifically proven actions you can take to calm your nervous system, re-energise your body or help you feel more connected for better physical and mental health eg. rocking, patting or eye movements.
ONE TO ONE COACHING - If you haven’t done the Embodied course the minimum number of sessions you can book is four, one hour sessions that we will arrange at the same time each week for four weeks. After that, it is however possible to arrange a bespoke programme for you eg. have a regular shorter session and focus simply on doing the exercises together to build some regular calming experiences into your week. For those who have done the Embodied Course we can discuss your bespoke needs and you can book single sessions.
SPECIALIST SESSIONS
There are regular group sessions addressing the following issues:
PARENTS OF ANXIOUS YOUNG CHILDREN AND TEENS - Learn simple tools to support your small person’s mental health and reduce anxiety. The great benefit of somatic solutions for children is that they don’t have to know or explain the reason for their anxiety in order to find workable solutions. This session would typically cover a basic understanding of how our emotions work and then find some practical exercises for them to rewire their brains to promote healthy responses to events.
