What is a BodyKindness Massage?

This massage is specifically designed to help to reconnect your mind to your body and facilitate deep relaxation.

Many of us live with unhealthy levels of stress that we hold in our bodies. The BodyKindness massage stimulates the vagus nerve that helps the body move out of an anxious place to a more relaxed state and also promotes relaxation in the muscles through rhythmic, deep tissue massage reminding the body how to relax. Helping your body calm has many physical as well as emotional benefits including better long term health, digestion, less headaches, reduced gut issues and a better sense of general wellbeing.

Whilst one treatment will make you feel fabulous, to get the best long term results from this massage and remind your body how relax by itself, a course of 6 massages over 12 – 16 weeks is highly recommended (if you purchase 6 in advance you get 10% off).

A BodyKindness massage is for anyone who has a busy life but it is also suitable for anyone who is going through something difficult eg exam pressure or relationship issues.

What is a sports massage?

Sports massage stretches tight muscles and stimulates inactive muscles, it helps remove trapped toxins, improves circulation and the overall condition of the soft tissue. This is done through manipulation and stretching.  Whilst each massage is bespoke for the individual it usually includes deep tissue massage and passive stretches where the therapist works with the client to maximise muscle health.

You do not have to be an athlete to benefit from this type of massage. Sports massage can help improve posture and benefit those who have sedentary desk jobs as well as those who do manual work such as gardening or a lot of driving.

Sports massage has been known to reduce tension in muscles, improve circulation, stimulate toxin removal, increase range of motion and help to relax the body with a view to promote more efficient movement and better recovery.  The main benefit of sports massage is improving muscle health which in turn prevents injury.

It is unlikely that you will fall asleep during this massage!  It is usually more stimulating than relaxing and requires interaction throughout to get the maximum benefit but, like all good massage, does ultimately lead to better rest.

Unfortunately, it is beyond the scope of this practice to treat injuries.

All massages are adapted in length and pressure depending on the client’s needs as well as their age.  For 11 – 18 year olds we offer a 40 minute treatment that can include learning some quick self-help coping techniques.  Treatments for under 18’s require a parent or carer present throughout the session.  The treatment is only effective if the client feels safe, so for younger clients it may help to bring a cuddly toy, blanket or something familiar that gives them comfort at least to the first session.
